Practice

My work has three parts: yoga, embodiment and women’s practice. Most of it draws on Hatha and Kundalini yoga and on Taoist practice. The yoga classes are open to everyone; the women’s practice is for women.

01

Yoga

Group classes, from a strong morning practice to deep rest in the evening.

What it is
Hatha and Kundalini yoga for strong practice, usually in the morning. Yin, Yoga Nidra and sound for rest, usually in the evening. And Chakra Kriya Yoga, described below.
What a class is like
Postures, breath work and time to be still. I explain why a sequence is built the way it is, and I show simpler and harder versions so you can work at your own level.
Who it is for
Everyone. You don’t need experience or flexibility, and you don’t need to be spiritual.
Formats
Weekly and drop-in classes, short courses, and sessions inside retreat programmes.

A class I designed

Chakra Kriya Yoga

The class I have spent the most time developing. Each session works with one chakra and has three stages:

  1. A sequence of postures that builds to one strong posture.
  2. Pranayama chosen for that centre, such as bhastrika, kapalabhati or alternate-nostril breathing.
  3. The kriya itself: a seed mantra, a mudra, a colour and a point of attention, sometimes with gentle bandhas.

Across a week the classes move through all seven chakras in order, so it runs as a seven-day course as well as a single class. I built it from my Kundalini training in Rishikesh and my chakra therapy training in Mumbai, and have refined it over years of teaching.

02

Embodiment

One-to-one sessions for people who want to work on something specific, at their own pace.

What it is
Embodiment work looks at how you stand, breathe, move and hold tension, and at how those habits connect to the way you respond to stress, to other people and to your own limits. I trained in embodiment coaching with Embodiment Unlimited.
What a session is like
We start with what you want to work on. Then we explore it through posture, breath, movement and attention, and you leave with a short practice to take home.
Who it is for
Adults who prefer one-to-one attention to a group, or who want to work on a question that doesn’t fit a class.
Formats
Single sessions or a series. Write to me to arrange one.

Women’s practice

Circles and workshops for women only.

What it is
Women’s circles, and circles at the new and the full moon. A circle is a small group that meets to practise and talk. Mine combine a theme, a guided meditation, breath practice, a simple ritual and a round of sharing.
What it is like
Everyone speaks in turn and is listened to without advice or comment. You share as much or as little as you want.
Who it is for
Women.
Formats
A monthly circle, new and full moon circles, and workshops or short series on a theme.

Part of my women’s practice

Tao Tantric Arts

A specialised part of my work with women. The word tantra means very different things to different people, so here is exactly what my sessions involve.

What it is
Tao Tantric Arts comes from the Taoist tradition. It works with breath, attention and slow movement to build awareness of energy in the body, through practices such as the six healing sounds and the microcosmic orbit. I trained as a facilitator with Shashi Solluna and Minke de Vos.
What it is like
The sessions I run publicly are gentle and fully clothed. There is no nudity, no partner work and no intimate contact.
Who it is for
Women only.
Formats
Workshops, short series and sessions within women’s retreats.

Before you come

Yoga and embodiment work support wellbeing. They are not medical treatment or psychotherapy. If you have an injury or a medical condition, or you are pregnant, tell me before we start.
