How a Chakra Kriya class is built

Chakra Kriya Yoga is a class I designed myself. I built it from my Kundalini training in Rishikesh and my chakra therapy training at The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, and I have refined it over years of teaching.

Each class works with one chakra. Taught across a week, the classes go through all seven in order, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Someone who comes every day for a week meets each of them once.

Postures

The class opens with a sequence of postures chosen for that day’s chakra. The sequence builds towards one strong posture, and everything before it prepares the body for that one.

Breath

Next comes pranayama chosen for the same centre. Depending on the day, that might be bhastrika, kapalabhati or alternate-nostril breathing.

The kriya

The kriya is the centre of the class. It brings together a seed mantra, a mudra, a colour and a point of attention that belong to that chakra, and sometimes gentle bandhas, the muscular locks used in Hatha and Kundalini yoga.

Who it is for

The class is open to everyone. The strong posture has simpler versions, and I explain each stage as we go, so you know what you are doing and why.

Chakra Kriya Yoga runs as a single class or as a seven-day course. If you run a studio or a retreat and would like it on your timetable, here is how we can work together.
